Pasta, Pasta, Pasta

Do you stare at the shelves of pasta hunting for Ruote? Things sure would be a lot easier if you knew that is was a "wagonwheel pasta" that you are hunting for. Here are some common pastas along with their descriptions to help you know what to look for.

  • Anelli - "rings" Small ring shaped pasta often found in soups or salads.
  • Bucatini - "small cave" Long macaroni with a small hole.
  • Capelli d'Angelo - "angel's hair" Delicate thin threads of pasta.
  • Ditalini - "little thimbles" Small tubular macaroni cut very short and often used in soups.
  • Fafalle - "butterflies" Pasta shaped like bowties or butterflies with fluted edges.
  • Fettucini - "small ribbons" Pasta shaped like ribbons.
  • Fusilli - "twisted spaghetti" Long strands of spiraled spaghetti, corkscrew shaped.
  • Gemelli - "twins" Two short pieces of spaghetti twisted together.
  • Linguine - "small tongues" Narrow flat strands of pasta.
  • Manicotti - "small muffs" large, long tubes that are usually stuffed.
  • Mostaccioli - "small mustaches" Large macaroni with a ridged or plain surface; end are cut diagonally.
  • Pastina - "little pasta" Tiny pasta shapes found in soups.
  • Radiatore - "radiators" Short, thick, curly, segmented shapes.
  • Rigatoni - "large, grooved" Grooved macaroni that is slightly curved and used for stuffing.
  • Rotelle or Rotini - "spirals" Spiral shapes about 1 1/2 inches long.
  • Ruote - "wagon wheels" Die-cut shapes that resemble wheels.
  • Spaghetti - "length of string" Long, round strands.
  • Spaghettini - "length of narrow string" Long strands that are thinner than spaghetti.
  • Tubetti - "little tubes" Tiny macaroni often used in soups.
  • Vermicelli - "little worms" Thin strands of spaghetti.
  • Ziti - "bridegrooms" Tube shaped medium pasta.
